Rise Ceramics
Abby Ronner
Abby Ronner is the artist behind the ascending studio Rise Ceramics in Brooklyn, NY. After growing up practicing ceramics in Tennessee and deepening her connection to nature over the years, Abby brought those two loves together to create Rise.
Abby's pieces are driven by inspiration gathered in nature, with a grounding rooted in function. Her pieces are intended for frequent use and provide a physical connection to the quiet beauty of the outdoors.
Nature & Quiet Reflection
The most significant influence on Abby's practice has been moments of quiet reflection surrounded by nature. Whether it was the sunsets in Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula or the snow-capped red rock mountains in the Western United States, those memories make their way into ceramic expressions that inspire us to slow down and appreciate the world around us.
And even within her collections, the pieces always reflect the changing seasons - like the current Montañas line with its darker red clay body during the Fall months.
Evolution in Practice
Abby's practice of ceramics has provided a thoughtful escape in a world full of distraction. The hyper-focused work at the wheel - molding and centering clay - can be like dreaming at times, connecting the artist to their subconscious. These moments help artists like Abby to learn, heal, and grow.
Rise Ceramics is continuing to evolve, finding more ways to adapt and connect to the environment around us. Abby hints that seasonality will play an even larger role moving forward, but even while we wait for what comes next, we can find grounding in the enjoyment of her hand-made work.
