Troy Yoshimoto is an industrial designer and ceramicist in New York City. Troy combines his passion and experience in both design and ceramics to create pieces with the intent of improving everyday moments, practically.
Many of the techniques Troy uses in his work leans on his background in design, but the medium of ceramics provides unique challenges. His passion for problem-solving and simplicity wind up working together to enhance the usefulness of the pieces he makes.
Everyday Moments
Whether it's morning coffee or after-dinner tea, our daily rituals are sacred. It's these moments - and the quest to make them even better - that inspire Troy's work.
To prevent cups from being too hot to hold, Troy created a series of Double Wall cups that benefit from the invented insulation. Because of the material and design, the Double Wall cups are also extremely light, almost like they're not even there.
Molding and Casting
Today, the majority of Troy's work comes from a process that involves molding and casting his pieces. Starting with a computer model, he 3D prints a form, finishes the exterior, and creates plaster molds. The process winds up full of trial and error, but ultimately makes for a result that is complexly perfect.
